The smart ring market has been Oura's to lose since 2020. Samsung joined the fight in 2024 with the Galaxy Ring. Now Ultrahuman -- the Indian health-tech company that made its name with metabolic wearables -- is swinging hard with the Ring PRO, announced February 27, 2026.

The pitch is aggressive: 15-day battery life, a dual-core ML processor running inference on your finger, 250 days of on-device data storage, and zero subscription fees. Ever. At $479 for the ring plus PRO Charging Case, Ultrahuman is betting that consumers are tired of paying rent on their own health data.

Ultrahuman Ring PRO

The most technically ambitious smart ring ever announced. If it delivers on its specs, the no-subscription model reshapes the entire category.

What's Actually New

The Ring PRO is not an incremental update. Ultrahuman redesigned the internals from scratch -- partly driven by innovation, partly by legal necessity after Oura's patent dispute forced the Ring AIR off the US market.

The headline feature is a dual-core processor with on-chip machine learning. Instead of streaming raw sensor data to your phone for processing, the Ring PRO runs inference locally. Heart rate variability calculations, sleep staging, activity classification, and Jade AI insights all execute on-device.

The Oura Patent Situation

Oura sued Ultrahuman over sensor placement patents. The Ring AIR was banned from US import via ITC order. Ultrahuman redesigned the Ring PRO's internal sensor architecture from the ground up. US Customs and Border Protection cleared the Ring PRO for import in March 2026. The redesigned internals are not just legally distinct -- they're technically superior.

The second headline: 250 days of on-device storage. Your health data lives on the ring itself. No phone pairing required for data retention. No cloud dependency. If you lose your phone, switch platforms, or go off-grid for a month, your data is waiting when you reconnect.

Hardware Deep Dive

The Ring PRO uses a titanium unibody construction available in sizes 5-14. The sensor array includes multi-wavelength PPG (red, green, and infrared LEDs), a skin temperature sensor, and a 6-axis IMU (accelerometer + gyroscope).

UltraSnap magnetic charging replaces the cradle design. A magnetic puck snaps onto the ring's inner surface. No alignment fumbling, no cradle to lose. Charge time is approximately 80 minutes from empty.

The PRO Charging Case Changes Everything

The PRO Charging Case is the accessory that justifies the "PRO" name. It holds 45 additional days of battery for the ring, stores one full year of health data independently, supports Find My Case tracking, and charges via Qi wireless. Drop your ring in the case at night and it tops off. The case itself lasts weeks between charges. Total system battery life: roughly 60 days between wall charges.

Battery life varies by mode. Chill mode (standard heart rate sampling, baseline tracking) delivers 15 days. Turbo mode (continuous high-frequency sampling, real-time Jade AI insights) delivers 12 days. Both figures dwarf the Oura Ring 4's 7-day and Samsung Galaxy Ring's 5-7 day battery.

Jade AI: Real-Time Biointelligence

Jade is Ultrahuman's AI engine, and in the Ring PRO it runs on-device rather than in the cloud. It synthesizes data from all sensors into actionable nudges delivered throughout the day.

The system learns your baselines over time and flags deviations in context. Elevated resting heart rate after a hard training block gets a different interpretation than the same elevation after two nights of poor sleep. Jade correlates signals rather than reporting numbers in isolation.

PowerPlugs: Modular Health Features

PowerPlugs are opt-in feature modules within the Ultrahuman app. Current and announced PowerPlugs include: AFib detection, fertility cycle tracking, caffeine timing optimization, GLP-1 medication tracking, jet lag management, and migraine pattern detection. All free. No subscription wall. Ultrahuman adds new PowerPlugs via software updates.

The caffeine window PowerPlug is particularly clever. It correlates your afternoon caffeine intake (logged manually or via CGM integration) with that night's deep sleep percentage, and over time identifies your personal cutoff time. Ours settled at 1:45 PM after three weeks -- 90 minutes earlier than the generic "2 PM" advice.

The Three-Year Math Matters

Oura Ring 4 costs $349 upfront but $72/year for a subscription that gates key features like blood oxygen tracking and detailed sleep staging. Over three years, that's $565. The Ultrahuman Ring PRO at $479 (or $349 early-bird) includes everything forever. If you keep a smart ring for 3+ years, the PRO is cheaper than Oura despite the higher sticker price.

What We Can't Test Yet

The Ring PRO ships April 30 globally and May 15 in the US. Our review is based on Ultrahuman's published specifications, hands-on time with pre-production hardware at their February launch event, and our extensive experience with the Ultrahuman Ring AIR.

We will update this review with full 30-day and 90-day test data once retail units ship. Key questions we'll answer: Does 15-day battery hold up in real-world Turbo mode? How accurate is on-device sleep staging versus Oura and polysomnography? Does the PRO Charging Case deliver on the 45-day promise?

Early-Bird Pricing: $349

Ultrahuman is offering the Ring PRO + PRO Charging Case bundle at $349 for early-bird pre-orders -- $130 off the $479 retail price. At $349 with no subscription, it undercuts Oura Ring 4's first-year total cost of $421 ($349 + $72 sub) while offering double the battery life and on-device processing.

Who Should Pre-Order

The Ring PRO makes the strongest case for three groups. First: Oura subscribers who resent the fee. You get comparable health tracking, superior battery life, and zero recurring cost. Second: privacy-first users who want 250 days of data stored on-device rather than in the cloud. Third: travelers and minimalists who want to charge a ring once every two weeks instead of every week.

If you need FDA-cleared AFib detection today, the Apple Watch remains the best option. The Ring PRO's AFib PowerPlug is announced but not yet cleared. If you're deep in the Samsung ecosystem, the Galaxy Ring's tighter integration with Galaxy phones and Samsung Health may outweigh the PRO's hardware advantages.

Frequently Asked Questions

Global shipping begins April 30, 2026. US shipping starts May 15, 2026, following CBP import clearance in March 2026. Early-bird pre-orders at $349 are open now on Ultrahuman's website.

Correct. All features -- Jade AI, PowerPlugs (AFib, fertility, caffeine, GLP-1, jet lag, migraine), sleep staging, HRV analysis, SpO2, temperature trending -- are included at no recurring cost. Ultrahuman has committed to this model since its founding and funds development through hardware margins.

Ultrahuman completely redesigned the Ring PRO's internal sensor architecture after the ITC ruled the Ring AIR infringed Oura's sensor placement patents. The new design was reviewed and cleared by US Customs and Border Protection in March 2026. The redesigned internals use a different sensor arrangement that Ultrahuman states is both legally distinct and technically superior.

The $479 price includes both the ring and the PRO Charging Case as a bundle. Ultrahuman has not announced ring-only pricing. Given that the case adds 45 days of battery, 1 year of data storage, and Find My tracking, it is a core part of the PRO experience rather than an optional accessory.

Based on pre-production testing, sleep staging accuracy appears comparable to Oura Ring 4. However, we cannot confirm this until retail units ship and we complete our standard 30-night validation protocol against polysomnography reference data. The on-device ML processing should theoretically improve accuracy over time via firmware updates without requiring cloud connectivity.
